In this tutorial we show how to use Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) to create an instant messaging app like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. Please use it for testing purpose only since the data is shared. Here is a pre-configured server details for testing the app. Don't mix projects provided in the tutorial with those on FB page. Please use real device (phone or tablet) for initial testing. Logcat and GAE logs will help you in debugging. Please make sure that your friend has added you (your chat ID) in his list. If you are able to send a message (as seen in the logs with proper messageId) but not receive it on your friends device having different chat ID. You'll have to redeploy the server project on appengine and then use init.html.ģ. For testing purpose you may add a contact with same chat ID to send message to yourself.ġ. Now the app would register itself with the server and a chat ID is generated.
